Anosmia is a total loss of smell (a: without, nosmia: odor), said Oscar Terrazas, a member of the American Association of Otolaryngology.

Currently there are three types of this condition: the first is the congenital anosmia, which is determined at birth because they are developed olfactory fibers (the nerve that contains the olfactory receptors), the traumatic anosmia, which happens when person suffers a cerebral stroke and causes a lack of meaning, and finally, inflammatory, which is caused by any inflammation of the nose, such as sinusitis or rhinitis.

Both are congenital conditions such as traumatic incurable, since the olfactory nerve fibers are separated at the level of the cribriform plate (the bone at the base of the skull that separates the intracranial space in the nasal cavity), but anosmia inflammation can be cured at the time to heal the above mentioned diseases or surgery.
